Kang Xu, Vice President of SCYCA, graduated from Zhejiang University with a major in Landscape Plants. He is a professional horticultural engineer and a licensed real estate agent, actively contributing to the Southern California community. All three of Kang’s children attend schools in the Irvine Unified School District. In 2021, his children began learning dragon and lion dance, and their enthusiasm quickly inspired the entire family to join. Since then, the Xu family has participated together in SCYCA’s training and performances, gaining physical strength, teamwork skills, and a deeper appreciation for cultural traditions.
Through his experiences as both a parent and a community leader, Kang has witnessed how dragon and lion dance can positively shape children’s confidence, discipline, and cultural identity. He hopes more families will join SCYCA, allowing their children to grow through cultural arts, build meaningful friendships, and proudly carry forward the spirit of Chinese heritage.
